Workshop | Digital detox: a guide

Whilst queuing, you’re helping yourself to a pile of free newspapers when suddenly you’re stopped: to take one, you have to provide your place of residence, your regular journeys, your most recent purchases, the people you regularly interact with, and even your interests. An absurd situation in real life, but perfectly commonplace in our digital lives.
Google and ChatGPT for searching, Amazon for shopping, Instagram for sharing, Microsoft and Apple for work… A large part of our daily digital activities now relies on the services of a handful of tech giants. Fuelled by the astronomical amount of data they hold on our habits, they have come to exert real control not only over our daily lives, but also over our media, our democracy and our economy. Breaking free from this presents a real challenge… one that many of you are willing to take on!
Le Dôme and Artifaille are launching a series of workshops to collectively devise a tool for digital empowerment. The aim: to co-design a system that can genuinely help us reduce our dependence on the tech giants, limit the data we entrust to them and gradually regain control over our digital lives.
This first workshop, led by Adrien Michel from Artifaille, marks the first step on this journey: what services do we use? And what do we use them for? What makes us want to break free… and what’s stopping us? Come and share your digital habits so we can collectively identify a path towards autonomy!
