The play “For a long time, I went to bed early”

Do not be misled by its literary inspiration, for the Compagnie Frenhofer has a knack for reinterpreting its sources and taking the audience on a journey through realms that are as mischievous as they are cunning – realms that provoke both laughter and reflection, and inspire a refreshing sense of wonder. Taking as its starting point the first sentence of the first part of the first chapter of the first volume of *In Search of Lost Time*, the company finds in Proust material with which to explore childhood and memories, lost time and the sleep that is slow to come. The child’s bedroom is the epicentre of this playful production, which draws on aesthetics as contrasting as those of puppetry, comic books and the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, to give substance to the emancipatory virtues of the imagination.
