Concerts du Grand Cheval – Humph!

Humph!
Thelonious Monk is a major figure in twentieth-century American jazz, a pioneer of the bebop movement, an iconoclastic and unheard-of pianist and a prolific and singular composer.
His music is so powerful that it extends far beyond the boundaries of jazz and improvised music.
"Humph" is the title of one of his earliest compositions, dating from the mid-1940s.
Pascal Le Gall, Patrice Grente and François Chesnel are three musicians who have been working together for many years, sharing the same passion for jazz, folk and experimental music all over France. Now they've come together to explore the repertoire of the great musician Thelonious Monk, in an inventive, sensitive and always playful approach, faithful to the spirit but not to the letter.
THELONIOUS MONK is considered one of the greatest composers of jazz. His compositions have been and still are played all over the world (Round Midnight, Straight No Chaser...). This formidable material is a source of constantly renewed interpretations. The HUMMPH trio continues this work by revisiting lesser-known pieces from this repertoire. Free in its complexity, the music that emerges is a new tribute to the great musician who died in 1982.
François Chesnel: piano / Patrice Grente: double bass / Pascal Le Gall: drums
