The easternmost of the D-Day Beaches, Sword Beach is the code name given to the beaches between Langrune Sur Mer and Ouistreham Riva-Bella for the operations on D-Day. Captain Philippe Kieffer and his team of 177 French commandos landed on Sword Beach on June 6th 1944 at Colleville Montgomery. They liberated part of Riva Bella. The English took charge of the eastern part of the beach, as well as the port and town sectors of Ouistreham.
