Sword Beach is home to the Tree of Liberty. Created in April 2014, to mark the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, the work evokes "The 70 Voices of Liberty". Leaf by leaf, Hervé Mazelin, artist and designer of this work, restored the tree in 2023.
A few steps away from this Tree of Liberty, you can discover the 177 trees in honor of the French members of the Kieffer Commando. In fact, 177 Tamaris trees have been planted from the 70th anniversary of D-Day to the Arbre de la Liberté in April 2024.
A public ceremony and a performance by Karine Saporta will inaugurate this new space in the presence of 354 children from Isabelle Autissier and Sacré-Coeur schools and Jean Monnet secondary school. During the ceremony, two children per tree will be in charge of unveiling the cartel with the soldier's name.
