In 1948, Caen photographer Robert Delasalle climbed to the top of the bell tower of Saint-Jean church to take pictures of the city center. The stigmata of the city in ruins are clearly visible, immortalized on glass plates preserved in the Archives Municipales.
Caen geographer Romain Stepkow has colorized them and presented them to us in the form of a panorama offering a rare and striking view of Caen in the immediate post-war period.
This unique, immersive work is made up of 12 aerial photos of Caen in 1946 and an exceptional panorama of the city taken from the bell tower of Saint-Jean church in 1948.
Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm. Weekends and public holidays, 9.30am to 7pm.
