Winter is coming, and the year-end celebrations too. Christmas means the traditional festive activities return. After a day at work, we enjoyed a relaxing evening between Christmas market, mulled wine, shopping and delicious treats. An after-work bathed in Christmas magic!

Warming up with mulled wine

Among the wooden chalets in the city centre, several offer the famous mulled wine, a traditional holiday drink. Red wine, sugar, cinnamon, star anise, cloves, ginger, orange zest, nutmeg… so many spices that offer a gentle, sweet and flavourful mix. Between €3 and €4.50 per glass, we don’t hesitate to treat ourselves to this little winter delight. There is a Normandy-style version with warm cider.
If you prefer something sweet, there’s also delicious hot chocolate or Viennese-style chocolate!

Doing some shopping at the market

We are now ready to take a stroll through the market. Handcrafted items such as wooden goods, nativity figurines, bags, jewellery, photos, decorations, soap… But also local produce, whether it’s honey from nearby or delicacies from afar like Corsican charcuterie. Plenty to pick out lovely gifts to put under the tree!

Taking a tasty break

To satisfy our sweet tooth, we head to the stall with waffles, pancakes, roasted chestnuts, and other treats. We could even feel like children again and sample some cotton candy! Who knows, we might even run into Santa Claus in this warm, festive family atmosphere.

Diving into the magic of Christmas

The evening draws in, night has fallen over the Christmas market. We take the opportunity to explore the events offered by the city. Or simply wander through the town centre and watch the façades light up at night. We recommend a detour to the City Hall to admire the view over Caen from the top of the Ferris wheel!
