"We acknowledge receipt of your order for 15,000 robots. Point. We accept no liability for damage caused in transit. Period. To the line. Yours faithfully Comma, line. For Rossum?s Universal Robot?
Written in 1920, R.U.R. is a futuristic show by the Czech writer Karel Capek, already dealing with the problems caused by mechanization and artificial intelligence. The show sees the first use of the word "robot", and its author, the ultimate reference in Czech literature, tells us about conspiracy, relationships between humans, patriarchy, the hope generated by progress and its dangers when the resulting inventions fall into the wrong hands.
