Historically outlawed, left-handed people are still associated with the devil, shadows and clumsiness. And yet, between straight, standardized lines, tenacious left-handers propose a different reading of the world, tracing sinuous curves that baffle the rules and give importance to anecdotes and secrets. Graphic and plastic research by artist Marion Cachon, La Gauchère is at once a typographic typeface that assumes the gesture of the left hand, a theoretical narrative combining image collection and testimonials, and a claim to think of left-handedness as a creative force.
Constructed over the course of meetings, workshops and conferences, the project is fully embodied in a book to be published by Tombolo Presses. For L?Artothèque, the artist is proposing an exhibition that places in space the pages, documents, writings and works that make up his research.
