Concert – David Chevallier Trio

10 years, over 100 concerts in France and across Europe, and three critically acclaimed albums. David Chevallier’s trio has become a key player on the contemporary jazz scene. To mark the release of their new album ‘Reset’, this marvellous trio is coming to Le Tympan to present the tracks that herald a new decade of shared music.
Flanked by his long-standing companions, double bassist Sébastien Boisseau and drummer Christophe Lavergne, the Rouen-based guitarist returns to the trio format, having often enjoyed venturing down unconventional paths. Equally at home on the theorbo as on his ‘augmented’ guitar, he brings us unexpected yet always fascinating projects: from covers of Björk with a baroque ensemble to hybrid guitar solos, from a quartet of 17th-century instruments playing contemporary jazz to a duo with Matthieu Donarier on saxophone, David Chevallier rejects conformism and stagnation, offering music that is vibrant and constantly evolving.
Drawing on the experience he has accumulated over the years, harnessing the strong interaction between the three musicians and a fabulous ensemble sound, he has composed a new repertoire that is by turns pared-back and airy, and dense and complex, with the aim of creating an exciting playground for the performers and a captivating experience for the listener.
