Enjoy a unique experience in Normandy with a sulky ride on Ouistreham Riva-Bella beach. Drawn by two former trotters, discover exhilarating yet soothing sensations as you race along between the sea spray and the wind.

Meet Detroit and Electron

The meeting point is in front of Ouistreham Riva-Bella beach, where we meet Detroit and Electron, two magnificent 11- and 12-year-old trotting horses. Their gentle yet powerful gaze sets the tone: this sulky ride will be more than just a simple outing.

Constance and Jade, passionate drivers at Sulky Passion, welcome us with smiles. Before setting off, they take the time to introduce us to the horses, explain their history, and kit us out for the adventure: anoraks, rain trousers, helmets and hairnets. Everything is ready for us to enjoy ourselves to the full in complete safety.

Preparing : waiting for before the escape

But first, what is a sulky? It is a light two-wheeled carriage with one or two seats, used mainly in trotting races. Detroit and Electron are therefore used to this strange cart!
The bond between drivers and horses is palpable. Detroit and Electron let themselves be harnessed, eager to get back to the beach.

We take our seats in the front of the sulky. The back seat is reserved for our drivers. Sitting comfortably, we set off at a leisurely pace towards the beach.

From walk to trot: a sensory awakening

Slowly, we head towards the sea. Then, Constance and Jade settle in behind us and encourage the horses to go into the water. The wheels sink into the sea and the waves cover the sound of hooves on the sand. Once the warm-up is over, we set off for a gentle trot along the beach. Between the pools of water left by the tide and the seagulls flying away in front of us, every moment becomes a living postcard.

The sea spray on our faces, the smell of the sea air, the coolness of the water: everything awakens our senses! It is both exhilarating and soothing.

The landscapes of the Pearl Coast

The landscapes along the route are also part of the experience. You walk past the beach huts of Ouistreham and the Flamme monument, a reminder of the D-Day landings.

Further on, the seaside villas of Hermanville-sur-Mer and Colleville-Montgomery pass before our eyes. With every step, the history and beauty of the place mingle with the emotion of the moment.

An hour of escape accessible to all

After an hour, it’s hard to believe that this experience is suitable for everyone aged 3 and above, with no particular physical fitness required. Yet it’s true: all you have to do is let yourself go.

This baptism is much more than just a seaside activity. It is a sensory immersion and an unforgettable encounter in a dream setting.
