The beaches
Still wondering whether you can walk your dog on the beach?
Here is the list of authorised beaches and the conditions of access :
- Ouistreham Riva-Bella beach :
Dogs are allowed on the eastern part of the beach and on the Promenade de la Paix all year round on a lead. Please note that in the eastern area, the risk of fishing hooks in the rocks can be dangerous for your pet. In the Centre and West zones, dogs are permitted except from 15 June to 15 September, even on a lead. - Colleville-Montgomery and Lion-sur-mer beaches : Dogs are allowed except from 15 June to 15 September.
- Hermanville-sur-mer beach : Dogs are allowed except from 15 June to 15 September between 9am and 7pm.
Accessible leisure activities
The Tourist Office’s guided tours are not open to pets, even on a lead, but some of our partners are happy to welcome you and your pooch!

And for a 100% successful holiday, here are our favourite activities to do with your four-legged friend:
- Take a stand-up paddle out to sea or on the River Orne
- Cani-cross in the Forêt de Grimbosq
- Play ball on the sand of one of the dog-friendly beaches

In transport
Car Nomad
The following are authorised:
- Guide dogs for blind or partially-sighted people and assistance dogs, on presentation of a certificate issued by a dog training school.
- National or municipal police dogs and dogs belonging to duly accredited security companies, provided they are kept on a lead and muzzled.
- Small, harmless animals (dogs weighing less than 10kg, cats, birds, etc.) if they are transported in suitably closed baskets or cages.
Large dogs, reptiles, insects, new pets (NAC) and category 1 and 2 dogs are not allowed in.

As a general rule, animals are not permitted.
The following are permitted:
- Trained guide dogs for blind people, as well as small domestic animals if they are transported in suitably closed baskets or cages not exceeding 1 metre in length.

- As a reminder, if you do not pick up after your dog, you may be liable to a 2nd category penalty of 35 euros.
- For categorised dogs, you must hold a certificate of aptitude (licence to own a dog).
