Not far from the D-Day Beaches, the Caen Memorial is a must-visit museum! From the origins of the Second World War to the end of the Cold War, the museum depicts the terrible history of the 20th century. Don’t miss the priceless photograph! Visit the Patrick Chauvel exhibition! The free permanent exhibition presents the career of the great war correspondent who reported on conflicts around the world in the last 50 years. A must-see! A unique feast for the senses to get to grips with our European history with the 360° screening of "L’Europe notre histoire" ("Europe our history" film screening included in museum admission fee).

The Memorial is hosting the "Années pop, années choc, 1960-1975" temporary exhibition from June 23rd to December 31st 2023. The exphibition explores social, political and cultural protest movements in France between 1960 and 1975. Pieces by narrative figuration artists, such as Arroyo, Erró, Fromanger, Grau, Messac and Rancillac, bring a critical view of their time from the Vietnam War to the aftermath of May 1968.
