Protestant dormant Cemetery

This Protestant cemetery, also known as the University cemetery, is right next to Camps 1. It's a tiny green spot frequented mainly by students who picnic there.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, non-Catholics had no place to bury their dead. It was a parishioner who bought this ancient walled garden to house the dead.

Badly damaged by time and the aftermath of the war, it is one of the small "dormant cemeteries" to be found in Caen. It contains the tomb of Brummell, the "king of dandies", who reigned over good taste and fashion in London in the early 19th century, before dying in Caen in 1840... riddled with debt.
