Martin ROMBERG Music (The Vikings) A Nordic epic, a 1958 film directed by Richard Fleischer
Specialising in film concerts where musicians perform live during the screening, the Ensemble de l’Opéra Normandie Rouen presents a new soundtrack for the legendary film *The Vikings*…
Released in 1958, *The Vikings* is a film by the great director Richard Fleischer, son of the producer of the Betty Boop and Popeye cartoons and a master of Cinemascope at Fox, MGM and later at Walt Disney. The four leading roles are played by big names from Hollywood: Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Ernest Borgnine and Janet Leigh. Erik, born of the rape of Enid, Queen of Northumbria, by the Viking chieftain Ragnar, grows up as a slave amongst the Vikings. He and Ragnar’s legitimate son, Einar, unaware of their kinship, harbour a fierce hatred for one another, and Erik’s falcon disfigures Einar during a violent altercation. Their relationship does little to improve when Morgana, the future Queen of England—who has been captured by Einar—falls in love with Erik… Passion, history, landscapes – an epic set to music by the Norwegian Martin Romberg, a composition student of Michael Jarrell and Klaus Peter Sattler, and composer of the score for Faruk Lasaki’s film *Changing Faces*, amongst other works.
