Lise de la Salle’s zest for life, Scandinavian spirit and panache surge through the turbulent waters of this programme, brought to life by Claudia Fuggetti’s video projections and the musicians of the Normandy Rouen Opera Orchestra. Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto is an epic journey through the fjords of Norway, a powerful evocation of the yawning chasms that nature carves out within us. To fill them, the spirit of Carl Nielsen’s symphony known as the ‘Inextinguishable’ gives voice to the ‘most primitive sources of the life force’, in the words of its composer. Creative power takes centre stage this evening, with a screening of works by video artist Claudia Fuggetti who, like the composers featured in this programme, invents new landscapes for a sensory geography – a bridge between dream and reality.
