He discovered theatre within the walls of Pontet Prison. Between serving his sentence and regaining his freedom, Redwane Rajel met two directors who changed his life: Joël Pommerat and Olivier Py. Alone on stage, framed by two mirrors, the man – now an actor – opens up and unravels his journey. Raised by a single mother in a working-class neighbourhood of Avignon, he worked a variety of jobs until that brawl got out of hand. Following his trial and sentencing, he ended up in prison, where the theatre workshop proved to be a revelation. In a monologue devoid of pathos yet of rare dramatic intensity, Redwane Rajel immerses us with sincerity in the reality of prison life, his experience of restorative justice and his redemption through the stage.
Running time: 1 hour 25 minutes. Text by Bertrand Kaczmarek, Enzo Verdet and Redwane Rajel; directed and designed by Enzo Verdet; based on the life of Redwane Rajel; starring Redwane Rajel.
