New perspectives on the reconstruction of Caen #4

Tours, urban walks and activities to discover the history and heritage of the Reconstruction. A remarkable urban and architectural adventure. : As a result of the bombings in 1944, Caen was partially destroyed. So the city had to be redesigned and rebuilt, striking a balance between respect for heritage and modernity. It was the beginning of a 20-year epic and a major urban development project, laying new foundations for the thousand-year-old city. This fourth edition, focusing on the heritage of Caen's reconstruction, is the result of a partnership between the Urban Planning Department and the Normandy Museum (Mission to promote the heritage of the City of Caen) and is part of the regional label "Heritage of Reconstruction in Normandy" in English. Free tours: • A château overlooking the city • Saint-Julien Church and its grand organ • Saint-Jean district / Avenue du Six Juin • Saint-Paul district • Chapelle du Bon Sauveur • Guérinière district • Caen Theatre • University La petite expo #6 at the Musée de Normandie: • Blue, red and gold: Danièle Perré's stained glass windows for Saint-Jean Church 13 September 2025 - 8 February 2026.
