Les grandes Mêlées d’Ornavik. Medieval martial arts combat

Organisation of a series of medieval martial arts battles in the Ornavik historic park.
Between 80 and 100 re-enactors and fighters are expected.

Organised in collaboration with the Norman historical re-enactment association "Ran Normaund", these great battles are fought until there is only one "survivor" left.

Format

The re-enactors compete in 3-on-3, 5-on-5 and 30-on-30 formats. Armed with spears, swords and shields, the athletes, dressed in period costume - chain mail, helmet and gambison - respond to their captain's call and carry out the manoeuvres.

Far from the apparent disorder, these melees obey precise rules. The aim is to hit your opponent in the chest, legs or head. Each combatant hit must withdraw from the melee. The team with the last fighter left is declared the winner.

The fighters are first and foremost athletes: they fight for real, without theatrics. Like in a karate match, their mastery of the discipline enables them to deliver blows without causing injury. The fighters organise themselves during the melee by following the orders of their captain, who is responsible for enforcing the strategy.

At the same time, there will be activities for families.
