Joël Pommerat's Cercles/Fictions is a succession of stories, spanning the centuries, around the theme of power. Fragments of life unfold one after the other, and as the play progresses the boundary between fact and fiction becomes porous, giving way to an almost supernatural and highly theatrical openness.
Who are the people telling us these stories? Human beings facing the tipping point of a fractured society on the brink of collapse. Human beings trying to understand the mechanisms of social reproduction and desperately seeking a way out of this vicious circle, this time loop in which they are clearly trapped against their will.
