Michel Bampély’s research focuses on the history, practices and key figures of the hip-hop movement in France. His work centres in particular on cultural exchanges between the United States, France and African diasporas, as well as on the processes of dissemination, appropriation and cultural legitimisation of hip-hop.
He offers a sociological analysis of a culture that has been shaping the cultural practices and modes of expression of young people for over fifty years.
