Italy, November 1944. It is the longest winter of all time. Milton is a member of the Resistance. For a year now, he has been walking, walking, walking; climbing, slipping, falling, keeping watch, waiting, smoking, laughing, crying, living, surviving, witnessing death, killing. But now he has strayed from his path. He stands in front of Fulvia’s villa. He is overwhelmed by nostalgia for the time before and after the war, and by a longing for love and poetry.
