The play “Nothing Ever Happened to Me”

From 1977 to 1995, Jean-Luc Lagarce recorded his reflections, his life and his thoughts in a diary. Thousands of pages that bear the mark of a life lived at a breakneck pace, an intimate portrait of a man who loved the stage, a prolific playwright and artistic director of the Théâtre de la Roulotte, eager for sensual encounters and carnal pleasure – a life that AIDS would bring to an abrupt halt in its frantic pursuit of freedom. But this diary is also a reflection of an era and a generation; its flow encompasses the ambivalent decade of the 1980s, a constellation of artists who were both inspired and decimated by the epidemic. Combining stand-up comedy with visual installation, and accompanied by an illustrator, Vincent Dedienne brings this pulsating language to life, framed by a curtain of threads that comes to life.
Based on *Le Journal* by Jean-Luc Lagarce, published by Éditions Les Solitaires Intempestifs; adapted and performed by Vincent Dedienne; directed by Johanny Bert; with Irène Vignaud as the on-stage illustrator.
The performance is naturally accessible to people who are blind or partially sighted. Running time: 1 hour 10 minutes.
