To mark the publication of the book *Le château de Caen, l’architecture au prisme du temps long*, we are pleased to invite you to a meeting with the authors: Photographs – Aitor Ortiz, Texts – Bénédicte Guillot - Archaeologist, Jean-Marie Levesque - Historian, Philippe Prost - Architect.
The unique castle complex of Caen Castle, a listed historic monument, celebrated its millennium in 2025 as a silent witness to memorable events in history. Over the centuries, numerous transformations have shaped the site and redefined its relationship with the city. The most recent is the project led by Philippe Prost’s architectural practice (winner of the 2022 Grand Prix national de l’architecture): a bold project that restores the castle’s internal unity and transforms its grounds into an urban park, serving as a true link between the city and the university.
Enhanced by Aitor Ortiz’s delicate photographs, this book unfolds like a spatiotemporal album, in which the texts by Bénédicte Guillot (archaeologist), Jean-Marie Levesque (historian) and Philippe Prost (architect) appear almost at random, complementing the images and revealing the profound and complex transformations the site has undergone throughout its history.
Saturday 4 July 2026 at 3.00 pm, at the Musée de Normandie – Salles du Rempart. Free admission for all. Duration: 45 minutes. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session and a book signing (discussions in French and English).
The book is on sale at the exhibition shop: *Le château de Caen, l'architecture au prisme du temps long* (Caen Castle: Architecture Through the Lens of the Long Term), Philippe Prost Architecture Studio, photographs by Aitor Ortiz, 128 pages, format 224x257 mm, Les Edifiantes Editions, €29.
