"Trained in Chinese calligraphy for several years by Mr Shi Bo in Paris, the rigour of the gesture and the mastery of the line had a profound effect on my pictorial representation until a meeting with Mr Gu Gongdu, a renowned painter and former teacher at the Beaux-Arts de Shanghaï, opened my eyes to the technique of watercolour and Chinese painting. As a result, my practice is rooted in a thousand-year-old tradition in which the movement of the hand reflects the impetus of the spirit, and in a spontaneity, fluidity and ability to capture the moment that the water at the base of these mediums brings."
