Street show: Les Femmes savantes

Street show: Les Femmes savantes, company Les Allumeurs de Réverbères
Outrageous period costumes, codified body language, masks and the metamorphosis of actors are the order of the day in this fast-paced show, driven by the energy of a young troupe that draws its energy from the strength of the stage where Molière began his career, and which gives his work an unrivalled pulse.

As Desmarêts de Saint-Sorlin had done thirty years before Les Femmes savantes in his Visionnaires, it is the excessive plunge into a fantasised idea that Molière attacks here. So our lovers of precious literature are not ridiculous because they are women, but because they don't know how to balance heart and reason.

While they believe they are guided in their lives by Reason, they fail to see that they are being led solely by their passions, while our young leads, who try to unite despite the obstacles in their way, symbolise the perfect union of these two opposing yet necessary tensions.

As in each of their productions, Les Allumeurs de Réverbères approach Les Femmes savantes with the intention of mixing different genres and inspirations, combining the ancestral heritage of the dramatic arts - baroque theatre, commedia dell'arte - with more modern inspirations such as the burlesque cinema of the 1920s or contemporary pop culture. With a staging that gives pride of place to visual narration, the company aims to help as many people as possible discover and hear the magnificent lines of this monument to the theatrical repertoire.
