Since the 19th century and the Comtesse de Ségur, children's literature has been a genre in its own right. In the 1950s, it sought to reach a wider audience, including teenage girls. The five young girls that Georges Gustave Toudouze launched aboard the Aréthuse in 1954 would take a whole generation of Green Library readers on a dozen adventures.
