Summer at the Caen Memorial – Family cinema – “Les Grandes Grandes Vacances

Free screening - "Les grandes Grandes vacances".

Every Wednesday from 22 July to 19 August 2026, the Caen Memorial will be showing two episodes of the series "Les Grandes Grandes Vacances" free of charge. Over the five screenings, a total of 10 episodes will be shown.

"In the summer of 1939, Ernest and Colette, two little Parisians, are sent to stay with almost unknown grandparents in Grangeville, a village in the Normandy countryside. Their stay, which was supposed to last a few weeks, actually lasted until 1944. There they followed the major and minor events of the conflict, from the exodus to the Armistice and the D-Day landings. Author and co-writer Delphine Maury drew heavily on childhood memories recounted to her by her grandmother, supplemented by the testimonies of around twenty people who also lived through their childhood during the war. Illustrator and comic strip author Emile Bravo brings the characters to life. A history lesson for 8/12 year olds, with no mawkishness, that's perfect for the whole family to enjoy together.
