The winter of 1925-1926 had a profound effect on the urban area around Caen: heavy and persistent rain led to exceptional flooding of the River Orne, causing widespread flooding and lasting disruption to daily life.
A century on, the "100 years of the great Orne flood" exhibition looks back at this momentous event. Through archive documents, press articles and scientific data, the exhibition illustrates the power of water and the ability of local people to organise themselves in the face of the event.
This exhibition was designed by Caen la mer as part of the Flood Prevention Action Programme (PAPI) for the lower Orne and Dives valleys.
A guided tour is available on 27 February, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Please register at contact@lepavillon-caen.com.
The exhibition is open at the Pavillon in Caen from Wednesday to Sunday (and public holidays) from 1pm to 7pm.
Admission is free.
