The cemetery is located 6 km from Caen, in the old grounds of the château in Cambes-en-Plaine, which was bitterly fought over during the summer of 1944. The 222 British soldiers who lie here fought to liberate Caen, and were chiefly from two regiments of the Staffordshire Division: the North Staffordshire and the South Staffordshire.
