The cemetery is located 6 km from Caen, in the old grounds of the château in Cambesen-Plaine, which was bitterly fought over during the summer of 1944. The 222 British soldiers who lie here fought to liberate Caen, and were chiefly from two regiments of the Staf-fordshire Division: the North Staffordshire and the South Staffordshire.
