Visit of the underground ice house in Caen

Built in the second half of the 19th century in a former open-air quarry where Caen stone was extracted, this ice house was designed to keep food cool. In June and July 1944, the area in which it is located was fiercely defended by the occupying forces. Dozens of local residents took refuge there during the fighting. Although the ice house did not offer them optimal shelter from the bombing, it did hide them from the Germans. Maximum capacity: 18 people
