Special, free access (no booking required) to the underground ice house located beneath Square Jeanine Boitard, on the corner of Rue d’Authie and Rue de Jersey in Caen.
Access is limited to 20 or 25 minutes per person (depending on visitor numbers). Visitors descend into the ice house as others come back up, in accordance with the very limited capacity.

The staircase has around a hundred steps; it is lit and fitted with a handrail. The site is not accessible to wheelchair users. It is not recommended for infants.
It can be very damp inside and the temperature is 10°. Please bring warm clothing and comfortable shoes.
As no booking is required, the queue in the square can be up to 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes long. It is best to visit during the Friday evening opening or very early on Saturday afternoon.
