One June afternoon, a young woman’s heart stops beating. Her name is Aurore. She is only twenty-five years old. This cardiac arrest does not kill her; it plunges her into a deep sleep. But that summer, hers is not the only heart to stop. Hundreds of young people aged between 20 and 30 fall asleep in turn, plunging into a mysterious and inaccessible night. They are called ‘Les évaporé.es’. Around the hospital lie the forest, the fields and the sun, which burns ever more fiercely with each passing day. Three faces approach Aurore’s bedside: Ariane, her best friend who no longer recognises her; Auguste, the waiter at the Café Rouge who would have liked to get to know her; and Violette, the nurse who tends to her suspended heart.
