The Middle Ages: Myths and Facts! (theatre performance) | Discovery Event

A humorous and historical talk for ages 12 and over. The ancestors of the Normans were the Vikings. They all came from Scandinavia. Really? Before he was known as ‘the Conqueror’, William was called ‘the Bastard’. Oh really? And that didn’t bother him? Matilda was a submissive woman, and William used to beat her. And is that why she, too, would sign the ducal charters?
Three myths, three obvious truths… which may not be so obvious after all! What if, even before the legends concocted in the 19th century, we’d also been misled by the medieval chroniclers themselves? Didn’t they embellish the truth a little to make their tales more gripping? Join us to unravel the tangled web of historical sources in a fun and accessible way, at this humorous talk open to everyone!
Because yes, you can talk about serious history without being serious!
