On Sunday 29 November 2026, the Mercure Caen Centre Port de Plaisance will host the first edition of ‘Les Halles du Port’, a Christmas market celebrating local craftsmanship, sharing and a sense of community. From 11.00 am to 6.00 pm, the general public is invited to discover the creations of numerous local craftspeople, designers and producers in the heart of the hotel’s grand reception hall.
Building on the success of the Sunday market on Quai Vendeuvre, this event aims to celebrate local talent and initiatives by providing a space for creators and visitors to meet. As visitors wander amongst the stalls, they will be able to discover a selection of handcrafted items, original objects, delicacies and gift ideas, whilst celebrating the work and expertise of the Normandy-based exhibitors.
As well as showcasing local talent, Les Halles du Port also wishes to place a strong emphasis on charity. From 1 November, a collection will be organised directly at the hotel reception. Visitors and local residents will be able to donate toys and soft toys to Secours Populaire, as well as board games – even if they are incomplete – which will be passed on to the charity Refaites vos Jeux. It’s a way of giving these items a new lease of life and supporting local charitable initiatives.
The event is open to everyone and admission is completely free. Whether you’re looking to discover new designers, find gift ideas, support local craftspeople or simply enjoy a friendly get-together, Les Halles du Port invites the people of Caen and the surrounding area to come together for an event that celebrates all things local.
