Saint Pierre, situated in the heart of the city, is Caen’s most significant architectural achievement from the latter part of the Middle Ages. It harmoniously blends elements of the Rayonnant and Flamboyant Gothic styles with those of the Renaissance; its sculptors skilfully adorned the spandrels and rib vaults with exuberant detail at the request of the district’s leading merchants.
