To mark World Calvados Day, celebrated every year on the third Thursday in October, the Caen la Mer Tourist Office invites you to an afternoon dedicated to discovery, heritage and fine food.
Starting from the Ferme de Billy in Rots, set off on a leisurely 6–7 km walk to explore the charming village of Rots and the surrounding countryside, in partnership with the Ferme de Billy and the ‘Les Chemins du Vent’ association.
Along the way, you’ll discover the rich heritage of the Mue Valley:
Unspoilt countryside and beautiful paths along the Mue Valley;
Remarkable architectural heritage, ranging from traditional farms on the Caen plain to manor houses and stone-built houses in Creully and Caen;
Historical heritage, notably featuring the wash house, the church, the chapel and the Grange aux Dîmes;
A gastronomic heritage showcased through the produce of the Ferme de Billy and Normandy’s traditional cider-making expertise.
A hike ending on a Calvados note
At the end of the hike, meet Mr Vauvrecy, a producer at the Ferme de Billy, to take part in two enjoyable and convivial culinary workshops.
First workshop: from cider to Calvados
Discover the different stages of cider production and the secrets of its transformation, as well as the products derived from it, notably the famous Calvados.
Second workshop: gourmet Calvados-based cocktails and digestifs
Time for a treat and a bit of creativity! Learn how to make gourmet Calvados-based cocktails and digestifs, before sampling them.
To extend the experience at home, you’ll take away the recipes for the drinks prepared during the workshop.
