Feature: Justice and the environment: the fight for our right to health

Clean air, safe drinking water, healthy food: our well-being depends on our environment. But what legal recourse do we have?

But what legal recourse do we have when these vital elements are threatened by pollution? Access to clean water, breathing clean air and being able to eat safely are fundamental pillars of human dignity. Yet, between industrial pollution and environmental crises, our right to health is constantly being put to the test. In the face of these emergencies, the law becomes an indispensable shield. Take a look behind the scenes of environmental justice to understand how laws protect our living environment, and discover the legal mechanisms and citizens’ remedies that enable us to defend our well-being today.

A crucial analysis of the major issues in environmental health, presented by Jean-Baptiste Idani, a PhD student at the Rouen University Centre for Legal Studies (CUREJ).

This ‘Rendez-vous avec’ event will take place at the François Geindre Library in Hérouville-Saint-Clair.
Free admission; booking recommended.

Le Dôme invites you to discover the “Rendez-vous avec” series, a programme of fascinating talks led by young researchers from Normandy to mark the 35th Fête de la Science in Normandy. Participatory research, society, the environment, history, or health… Each session offers a lively glimpse behind the scenes of current research, explained with simplicity and enthusiasm. Join us from 2 to 12 October 2026 at libraries and media centres across Normandy to ask your questions, share ideas and learn in a friendly atmosphere.

On the programme for this edition, themed ‘Saveurs savantes’ (Scholarly Flavours), there will be nearly 100 events hosted at around forty venues and led by PhD students who will travel across the region to meet the public and explore the challenges of food in the 21st century, ranging from the chemistry of flavours to sustainable agriculture, via public health and culinary technologies.

Organised with the support of Science Action Normandie and the departmental libraries of Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne and Seine-Maritime, the 2026 programme for “Rendez-vous avec” features nearly 100 events. You’re sure to find one near you!
