Hip-Hop Culture(s)

The libraries in Caen-la-Mer are joining forces to showcase hip-hop culture through three exhibitions (BAdT, Grâce-de-Dieu, Hérouville-Saint-Clair) and a variety of events: workshops, talks, conferences, concerts, film screenings, breakdance battles…
All too often seen simply as a dance form, hip-hop is in fact a diverse artistic and cultural movement that manifests itself in at least four founding disciplines: DJing, breakdancing, graffiti and rap.
As part of this exhibition, the Alexis de Tocqueville Library invites visitors to trace the history of hip-hop through the work of Caen-based DJ Phuncky Doyen and photographer Big Daddy. For this event, Phuncky Doyen is lending part of his incredible collection of vinyl records and various artefacts. Big Daddy, for his part, offers a wonderful documentary perspective through his collection of photographs.
Several events will be organised in connection with the exhibition; further details can be found here on the Caen-la-Mer library network’s website.
