Science Festival: Fields of the Heart: The True Cost of Our Food

Heartfelt accounts, practical solutions, challenges facing the farming sector: gain an insight into the daily lives of those who feed us during an evening of film screenings and discussion.
Travelling the length and breadth of France, fifteen farmers speak openly about their struggles, their hopes and their solutions for the future of farming practices: pulses, crop rotation, reducing the use of pesticides, the rediscovery of buckwheat…

Echoing ‘Saveurs Savantes’, the theme of the 2026 Science Festival, the film explores the true cost of our food: how can we produce food that is high-quality, profitable and accessible to as many people as possible? A sincere and resolutely positive documentary, selected for the 2025 ALIMENTERRE Festival.

The screening will be preceded at 7.30 pm by a ‘Discovery Apéro’ hosted by France Nature Environnement and the Café des Images Solidarity Purchasing Group. A discussion with local experts will round off the evening.

This event is organised by Caen Normandie Métropole in partnership with the Café des Images, Le Dôme and the University of Caen Normandie as part of the ‘Ciné-Sciences’ series.
