Who would you call if everything came to a standstill tomorrow?
Storms, floods, prolonged power cuts, water shortages, social or economic crises: when systems break down, what holds us together are the bonds we’ve forged – between neighbours, colleagues, partners, organisations, businesses and local communities within the same area.
This is what Pablo Servigne calls the ‘storm network’: the network of people and organisations we can truly rely on when things get rough.
A former researcher in ethology – the study of animal behaviour in their natural habitats – Pablo Servigne is now an ‘earth-dependent’ researcher; his work focuses on the transdisciplinary study of collapse and resilience, but also, in parallel, on the mechanisms of mutual aid that enable us to envisage a century that is, despite everything, a happy one.
Designed as a space for peer-to-peer exchange, this workshop is neither a lecture nor a lesson: the aim is to reflect on the concept of a ‘network of storms’ and on our ability to act together in Normandy.
On the programme:
-Introduction by Pablo Servigne: mutual aid, resilience, the ‘network of storms’ – all the basics to get off to a good start.
-World Café in small groups focusing on practical questions: What is the ‘network of storms’ in Caen? How can we strengthen social ties before crises strike? Which connections really hold up when the going gets tough?
-Collaborative mapping of connections between citizens, organisations, businesses and public sector bodies in the region
-Collective summary
-Networking lunch with Pablo Servigne and the participants to continue the discussions in an informal setting.
-You’ll leave with an initial map of your personal or organisational ‘storms’: who can you rely on in the event of a supply disruption, a climate-related event or a social crisis? Who can you collaborate with locally?
-Important: to enrich the discussions, we ask that you read Pablo Servigne’s book *Le Réseau des Tempêtes* (a short, easy-to-read book).
