Ten years to get home! Odysseus and his sailors hold one banquet and feast after another during their legendary odyssey across the Mediterranean.
And no wonder: Odysseus, as handsome as a god, is a man to die for. How convenient! The monsters he encounters are man-eaters, sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively.
But, above all, Odysseus has a voracious appetite: this king of Ithaca has a paradoxical relationship with food, one that will influence his decisions throughout his journey. And interpretations from both past and present explore, through this ‘eater’/‘eaten’ dichotomy, the notion of heroism as well as the evolution of humanity’s relationship with nature.
An epic tale unravelled by Marlène Fraterno, a qualified teacher of Classical Literature and a PhD student at the Laboratory of Literature, Performing Arts and Romance Languages (LASLAR) in Caen.

Le Dôme invites you to discover the “Rendez-vous avec” series, a programme of fascinating talks led by young researchers from Normandy to mark the 35th Fête de la Science in Normandy. Participatory research, society, the environment, history, or health… Each session offers a lively glimpse behind the scenes of current research, explained with simplicity and enthusiasm. Join us from 2 to 12 October 2026 at libraries and media centres across Normandy to ask questions, exchange ideas and learn in a friendly atmosphere.
On the programme for this edition, themed ‘Savoury Science’, are nearly 100 events hosted at around forty venues and led by PhD students who will travel across the region to meet the public and explore the challenges of food in the 21st century, ranging from the chemistry of flavours to sustainable agriculture, via public health and culinary technologies.
Organised with the support of Science Action Normandie and the departmental libraries of Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne and Seine-Maritime, the 2026 programme for “Rendez-vous avec” features nearly 100 events. You’re sure to find one near you!
