Just a stone’s throw from the city centre, the Faubourg Saint-Gilles is brimming with sights from every era: the Sépulcre – once Caen’s most prestigious church –, Rue Haute, strangely split in two; Rue de Calix, which still retains a rural atmosphere; the ruins of Saint-Gilles Church; fine examples of post-war architecture; and the Lebanese cedar and its green maze. The tour will spend some time in the Romanesque abbey church of La Trinité (Abbaye-aux-Dames) and will give you the chance to explore its underground crypt.
Guided by Pierre Ageron.
