Exposition “NOMAH, la sérendipité à l’œuvre – peintures, dessins, estampes”

Nomah, whose real name is Martial Hamon, has a rich cultural background in human anatomy and physiology. A cardiologist by profession, he entered art as one enters religion. Challenging reason, he plunged resolutely into an unknown, a promise of rebirth that would erase the wounds of life. Fascinated by the beauty of the organic, the artist reminds us of life's vulnerability and extreme fragility. The anatomical forms, raw flesh and tangled viscera he explored during his medical procedures are tirelessly transcended in a body of work where immediacy and chance have their place. A self-taught artist, Nomah is constantly discovering and experimenting. He varies his processes and materials, testing and groping, then, through persistence, perfecting and mastering his techniques. He draws inspiration from his many readings and artistic discoveries. His encounter with the work of Francis Bacon at a retrospective in Sydney in 2012 remains a seminal event for him. He also refers to Jenny Saville, Dado, Fred Deux, Egon Schiele, Rebeyrolle and Rembrandt. In his studio, he favors approaches that leave much to chance. The artist expresses himself through painting, engraving and drawing, whose graphic style combines technique and the immediacy of gesture. Her artistic approach uses colors and shapes to create an allusive figuration, stemming from an original abstraction that takes us back to the origins of life. Nomah wishes to share her work with the public. Winner of the 2018 Taylor Foundation prize and of the 2020 Salon du Dessin at the Grand Palais in Paris, he takes part in numerous exhibitions and fairs, including the 2019 Puls'art in Le Mans and the MAC Paris, the 2020 Art Capital fair at the Grand Palais in Paris and the Espace Culturel l'Usine à Zabu in Saint-Germain-des-Angles. The works are mostly untitled, to give free rein to the viewer?s imagination.
